CANON
A principle governing action or procedure:
A singular precept is a decree which directly and legitimately enjoins a specific person or persons to do or omit something, especially in order to urge the observance of law.
In essence a precept is going to another chapter or verse for the definition of what you’re currently reading, This can be referred to as the two or three witnesses. When the bible speaks to us, it speaks to us through the many Prophets throughout the Bible. With Precepts, some scriptures line up more than others, it may be two times or it may be three times. Christ when he spoke, he quoted Old Testament scripture well over three hundred times. He quoted from the book of Enoch, Leviticus, Deuteronomy and many more. Christ said the Law would be fulfilled (Matthew 5:18) and the Scriptures could not be broken (John. 10:35). It has been estimated that over one-tenth of Christ recorded New Testament words were taken from the Old Testament. In the four Gospels, 180 of the 1,800 verses that report His discourses are either Old Testament quotes or Old Testament allusions.
Matthew 18:16
But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that
"By the mouth of two or three
witnesses every word may be established."
2 Corinthians 13:1
This will be the third time I have come to you. "By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established."
1 Corinthians 14:29
“Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment”.
to require two or three witnesses for a criminal conviction: “You must not convict anyone of a crime on the testimony of only one witness. The facts of the case must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses”
A single party might be able to get away with falsely accusing someone of a crime, but it is much harder for multiple witnesses to conspire to pervert justice. Also, one person could mistakenly misinterpret an act as criminal, but it is far less likely for two or three witnesses to all get it wrong. For this reason, the law required that allegations be evidenced and attested to by no less than two eyewitnesses.
Precept Upon Precept
AHAYAH’s primary purpose for implementing judicial procedures was to maintain purity in the covenant community. Another clear intention was to bring about repentance and restoration for the criminal. AHAYAH’s nature is one of compassion and mercy. He forgives rebellion and sin, but he does not excuse the guilty.
The principle of more than one witness recurs in the New Testament. Jewish law recognized that the truth or validity of someone’s claims had to be established by two or three witnesses (John 8:17; Matthew 18:6, 2 Corinthians 13:1). In the church, an accusation against an elder or leader requires two or three witnesses before action is taken. The beginning of creation is an account of 3 witnesses, The Most High God Ahayah, The son Yasha Christ and the Holy Spirt all bear witness to the creation of the world. It is definitely harder to argue against three witnesses then it is to bear a false statement against one.
